Why We Made Them

We wanted to make our shoes stand our at clubs, pubs and raves, and Glow In The Dark Shoes was the perfect choice.

Uses For Glow In The Dark Shoes

  • Clubs, Pubs and Raves
  • Halloween for extra effects.
  • Concerts and performances.
  • To attract other peoples attention.
  • Film & theatre
  • Amusement parks

How We Applied Glow In The Dark Pigments To Our Shoes.

  • We decided to use a white leather restorer for shoes, (White leather restorer, because white reflects light and this is needed when painting with pigment/paint mixes, on objects that are not originally white).
  • We painted on thick coats of 50% pigment/paint mix. Painting thick coats wasn't the best choice. We should have had less pigment in the mix,  and applied thin coats. Thick coats will break away from shoes quicker than using thin coats.
  • We are now looking for a product like Silicon Sealant, that stays flexible when cured, (shoes twist and bend). This product could be transparent or white.
  • So next time we will try using a clear silicon sealant/pigment mix, because this should cater for shoe flexing better, which equates to longer times between reapplying the pigment/paint mix. We believe we may need to use standard series pigments with silicon sealant.

Things To Consider

  • Shoes are flexible, especially if dancing, so the glow pigment mix will need to be re applied regularly. A flexible medium that will adhere to the shoes, mixed with the Pigment, is best
  • The Green Pigment has the strongest illumination, combined with the longest glow time. We have also used to great effect, the Green/Blue Pigment.
  • Make sure you use the "W" series of pigments, if using Acrylic types  of paint. Acrylic type paints normally wash off paint brushes with water.
  • If you only want to use them for a one off occasion, we suggest you use "White Acrylic Artists Paint" with the pigments. This should make removal easiest.
